Bianca Pittoors Quartet Wins Best Jazz Band

Ottawa, ON (September 9, 1999) Wednesday night, after playing in several locations around the city, the Bianca Pittoors Quartet came out a winner in the Carlsberg Breweries Battle of the Jazz Bands hosted by the Royal Oak Pubs.

Bianca Pittoors approached the stage with an infectious smile wide enough to warm up the whole room. When she spoke, she told stories. When she performed, those stories came alive. In her fresh and unassuming style, Bianca shared thoughts and feelings with honesty and authenticity. An unpretentious woman, she has a strong yet sensuous voice which permeated every corner. In a place where there is always a buzz of activity, you could hear a pin drop. All ears were on this vocalist and the accomplished musicians with her on stage.

Tom McMahon has been the musical director for the group since its inception a couple of years ago. A jazz background, and a diversity of musical interests, allows Tom to offer up some very creative arrangements. Charles Gay on drums, Ian Clyne on piano and Tom on bass play off each other and surround the vocals with a rich tapestry allowing the sound to envelop the audience.

Let's be reminded that the repertoire goes beyond smooth ballads and sultry tunes. This group likes to shake it up and shake it up they did. Succeeding in capturing the audience's undivided attention, they left people cheering. This groups success is based on their love of the music and the passion which comes out of every note.
